Baleen Filter

Baleen trail unit – ready for testing up to 30 m3/Hr.

The Baleen Filter has won design awards, every year since 2000. The technology is unique and has been patented globally. The Baleen Filter is a self sustaining unit capable of filtering a high solids loading of sinkable & floatable materials such as fats, oil, grease, silt, pulp, lint, wood, grass, fibre, hair and obviously potato skins; from a size of 10 mm down to 25 microns (1/16 th of human visibility) without chemical assistance and down to 3 microns with chemical assistance. The Baleen Filter is especially applicable in water treatment approaches where waterborne materials were previously regarded as problematic to conventional screening and filtration processes. The Baleen Filter utilises the fundamental benefits of fluid dynamics to its advantage to separate the solids from the water restoring water quality to a suitable standard for re-use. The Baleen Filter can guarantee that all solids; sized greater than the filter media aperture; will be separated and collected as a ‘natural’ mass (of spade-able consistency) and with minimal water retention.

So; in addition to the abovementioned facts whilst re-emphasizing the core function of the Baleen Filter process; it must be noted that from a primary treatment perspective, the Baleen technology will separate and recover virtually 100% of visible materials without the need for biological or chemical assistance (an outcome normally reserved for secondary treatments).

The Baleen Filter is fast becoming recognised as the “missing link” in water treatment; changing the face of water treatment practises globally.

With our comprehensive knowledge in the areas of chemical application in metallurgical process control, AS Automation has now also engaged in extensive testing in process optimization and separation within the Platinum and Chrome industries working hand in hand with some well established OEM’s. The results obtained were already exceptionally positive, and huge breakthroughs are expected soon.

The above mentions a few focus applications, however the applied possibilities is almost endless, to name but a few:

  • Chicken and other livestock effluent recovery – Abattoirs & Slaughterers
  • Virgin and Fibre recovery – Paper & Pulp
  • Wash water and Cleaning recovery – Food & Beverage
  • Starch recovery/filtering – Food & Beverage
  • Sand filter wash water recovery
  • Filtrate recovery
  • DAF & Settler replacements in almost all conventional applications
  • Primary filtration in any water filtration plant
